Question 1

What is a jon boat best used for?

Accepted Answer

Jon boats are flat-bottomed aluminum utility boats built for shallow, calm water — they're a popular choice for duck hunting, small-lake and river fishing, and general utility work where a simple, stable, shallow-draft boat matters more than speed or rough-water handling.

Question 2

What size jon boat do I need?

Accepted Answer

Smaller jon boats (10 to 12 feet) are light, easy to car-top or trailer, and well suited to solo fishing on ponds and small lakes, while larger models (14 feet and up) offer more stability and capacity for a passenger or two and gear — the right size depends mainly on where you'll use it and how many people typically come along.

Question 3

How much does a jon boat cost?

Accepted Answer

Jon boats are one of the most affordable ways to get on the water — a basic model with a small outboard can start in the low four figures, while a larger, more accessorized jon boat can run into the five figures.
